Long Beach Museum Of Art Downtown Opens Its Doors

Nelson expressed his excitement about providing a new space for artists to display their creativity. “I think that’s what this space does to people and to me,” he said. “I mean, when you walk in and see the size of that gallery and the size of the ceiling, it’s inspirational. There is so much that can be done within this space. We really want to connect deeply with the artists and their community here.”

Former Immigrant Farmworker Becomes Notable Long Beach Artist

“You know, kids, when they go to school, they have crayons, paper, and drawing. I felt like I never left it,” said Martinez. “I would just draw. I would go to my neighbors. Discover the History of Long Beach

The museum has been in the 1911 Elizabeth Milbank Anderson house since its inception in 1950. Since 1977, it has been accredited by the American Association of Museums. Even Claire’s, the restaurant next door will give you a view of over 100 ceramics from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
