GBW Workshop: Box with a Twist
October 7, 2017 – October 8, 2017 • All Day -
Workshop taught by Betsy Begue
Oct. 7 & 8, 2017, 10:00-4:00
at Long Beach Museum of Art
Ready for a new box structure? While the top and bottom of this box are 6” square, the sides are facetted, giving them the shape of a cut gemstone. French cartonnage techniques will be demonstrated and practiced as we use book board and craft tape to build a box with canted sides, line it, and create a fitted lid. Cartonnage is a traditional French art form which involves building decorative 3-D objects from flat book board and covering them with fabric, paper and trim.
Betsy Begue studied cartonnage in France from 2002 to 2007, eventually teaching international students. Upon her return to the US, she completed a degree at Hollanders School of Book and Paper Arts. She teaches cartonnage classes throughout Ohio and Michigan.
